What does it mean?

You've been thinking about somone. Somone you haven't heard from in weeks, months or even years, and within a short period of time you receive some kind of communication from them. Twice I received letters from a woman I had worked with years before within a day of thinking about her for the first time in a long period of time. The second instance I even stopped in front of the mailbox and had the idea that there was going to be a letter from her because it had already happened once and sure enough, there was a letter in the box. My question is obvious. What is this phenomenon that boils down to a "Strange Case Of Uncanny Timing"?

Is it God? Is it the Universe? Entanglement? Are our brains Quantum computers? Is it the "Law of Attraction"?, or is it all nothing more than a coincidence? Carl Jung called it synchronicity and it happens all the time. Does it happen to you? It happens to me and I find myself wondering "What does it mean?". Decide for yourself as you follow my diary of another "Strange Case Of Uncanny Timing", also known as a S.C.O.U.T!

June 7, 2010 - Bacon bits of love :)

Background -  My husband and I had a bit of a rough patch. I wouldn’t really call it a fight, it was more of an impass which resulted in that cold, silent distance between us for a bit (way worse than a fight). A day or so later, we were able to make-up and feel that sweet closeness once again. So much so that we decided to head to Costco for a now rare, husband/wife shopping trip. After ambling up and down the vast aisles, bumping one another affectionately with our shoulders we came upon the bacon bits. We were trying to decide whether to buy such an enormous bag (nitrates and all) when I checked the expiration date just out of curiosity.

S.C.O.U.T. -  The date read November 19, 2010, our wedding anniversary. 22nd to be exact! I mean seriously, this was early June. Think of all the dates that could have been on that bag. Now think of it this way… if I went out searching products for our anniversary date, what are the chances I would find it? I can tell you that I did exactly that for the next two months (and off and on since then) and haven’t found a product marked with November 19 yet. Uncanny!

My goofy dog Scout says that there is no way that a product that lasts that long is “food“. Needless to say, I haven’t read him the expiration date on his dog food….that’s probably best.

June 3, 2010 - The magically appearing old friend

Background -   My husband was having lunch with his brother and they were seated at a table that had a good view out the window to the pedestrian traffic passing by on the sidewalk. While waiting for their food, my brother-in-law began asking my husband about a guy my husband had worked with over five years ago. My brother-in-law knew of this guy but had never met him (and had no idea what he looked like). He had just been randomly thinking about him and decided to ask my husband if he‘d seen him lately. He was trying to describe the guy to my husband and my husband was trying to figure out who it was that his brother was asking about. After a bit of back and forth, they came up with the guys name and chatted about him for a moment.

S.C.O.U.T.
 -   It wasn’t even a full minute after their chat ended that my husband looked out the window and this very same guy, who he hasn’t seen, talked to, or even talked about in years, walked right by the restaurant on the sidewalk outside their window. My husband started cracking up and pointed him out to his brother, both of them a bit stunned and marveling at the timing of this guys appearance. Uncanny!

Coincidence? Seriously, do you really believe that? My goofy dog Scout says no way. I am convinced that there is far more to this world of ours than our five senses can explain

March 2010 - S.C.O.U.T. to the rescue

Reader contribution  -  Tammy sent this chilling story of rescue to me last week about a mutual friend of ours. The story is about our mutual friends mother.

Our mutual friends mother lives in Vermont on Lake Dunmore in the summer, and then lives in Florida in the winter. One day, at her place in Florida, a couple from Middlebury, Vermont - a town very near Lake Dunmore - just happened to be driving by her condo and noticed her license plate which reads “DUNMORE”. The couple was intrigued to see a license plate from a place so near where they lived in Vermont all the way down here in Florida, so they decided on a whim to stop and meet the owner of the car and see if they had any conncections in common.

S.C.O.U.T. -  They knocked on the door of the condo, but got no answer. For some reason, a reason they themselves don’t quite understand, they began trying to peer inside the window looking for the resident and owner of the car. As their eyes adjusted and they realized that what they were looking at was a woman lying on the floor in distress. They called 911 and were able to break into the condo and get her help. This woman had been in extreme distress and had been lying on the floor for 5 hours unable to get the help herself.

The unfortunate part of the story is that our friends mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, but the fortunate part is that our friend is with her and doesn’t have to live with the heart wrenching reality that she never got to see her mom again.

Tammy finishes by saying “I believe that there is no doubt that God was at work in this”. Thanks so much for sharing this story with us Tammy. We all have a little something to think about today and my question to you is “do you still believe that there is anything such thing as a coincidence?"

Me and my goofy dog Scout are thinking peaceful, positive thoughts for our friend and her mother.

June 2, 2010 - Yoko Ono maddness!

Background  -  One of my twins and I were sitting in the allergist office waiting for the doctor. I had picked up a random magazine in the waiting room and was flipping through for something to read. I came across an article on Yoko Ono and dove right in. I have never read anything about her and haven’t even seen her name for years and years so I was interested to see what she’s up to.

I was about a paragraph in when my son started asking me all kinds of questions about the very same Yoko Ono. I couldn’t figure out how he knew I was reading an article about her because she wasn’t on the cover, I was all the way across the room from him, and there was a huge examining table in between us to boot! I asked him how he knew I was reading about her?

S.C.O.U.T. -   He said he didn’t know. He said he had been thinking about her because he had heard the song “Imagine” the day before. The Beetles and, specifically, Yoko Ono had just popped into his mind while he was sitting there.

This phenomenon makes me think of the particles in quantum physics that get entangled and then behave the exact same way at the exact same moment no matter how far apart they are. I think that people get entangled and this entanglement is responsible for these telepathy type events.

My goofy dog Scout says that he always knows what I’m thinking, and that its not all that impressive. Typical, and no more cookies for him.
