Background - One of my twins and I were sitting in the allergist office waiting for the doctor. I had picked up a random magazine in the waiting room and was flipping through for something to read. I came across an article on Yoko Ono and dove right in. I have never read anything about her and haven’t even seen her name for years and years so I was interested to see what she’s up to.
I was about a paragraph in when my son started asking me all kinds of questions about the very same Yoko Ono. I couldn’t figure out how he knew I was reading an article about her because she wasn’t on the cover, I was all the way across the room from him, and there was a huge examining table in between us to boot! I asked him how he knew I was reading about her?
S.C.O.U.T. - He said he didn’t know. He said he had been thinking about her because he had heard the song “Imagine” the day before. The Beetles and, specifically, Yoko Ono had just popped into his mind while he was sitting there.
This phenomenon makes me think of the particles in quantum physics that get entangled and then behave the exact same way at the exact same moment no matter how far apart they are. I think that people get entangled and this entanglement is responsible for these telepathy type events.
My goofy dog Scout says that he always knows what I’m thinking, and that its not all that impressive. Typical, and no more cookies for him.
I love the way you put it, about how it is an entanglement of quantum particles...truly what is to say it isn't. The way a mother can hear her OWN baby crying in a crowded gathering, and the way a baby can sense when something has gone wrong, either becoming unusually silent or unusually loud. LONG before they develop speech or mobility, babies are entangled with their mothers' "physics." My mother used to always just seem to call me on the telephone at the moment I was despairing and when I selected my daughter's name while I was pregnant and called my mom to tell her my thoughts, she opened the conversation with, "What about Lila," which is exactly the name I was about to say. It really can't be a coincidence. I think that it is MORE naive to think that than to think the other more uncanny thought...Nice post.
